Christmas Parade at Nettles Island
On Saturday December 12, 2015 the Nettles Island Veterans along with residents of Nettles
Island celebrated the spirit of Christmas with a parade and Christmas in the Round. The
parade as you will see had fire engines, police cars, marching band and many many
festively decorated golf carts.
The newly created Veterans Auxiliary hosted a bake sale outside the Rec Hall . Thanks to
Marilyn Molloy along with Janice Ross, Darlene Steiler, and Marilyn Dilenchi for setting up and working the tables. Pat Stabile was in charge of decorations at the bake sale. Thanks to our friends that baked and donated all the delicious treats. Through the generosity and hard work of these good folks $262.75 dollars was raised through the bake sale. Also a decorated jar at the real estate
table raised $18 dollars. Fourteen new members paid $70 dollars in new dues. Welcome to all new members! Thank you all for your hard work and donations!
The first meeting of the Nettles Island Vet's Auxiliary is on Thursday, January 7th at the Rec. Hall East. Barbara Green will be back by then and lead the meeting. She is our President, Marilyn is Vice President and Secretary and Shirley Green is Treasurer
Our next Vet's meeting is January 13 at the Rec Hall. Our guest speaker will be from the
Jensen Beach Historical Society. Should be an interesting guest.
Do not forget Larry has a fine selection of Nettles Island Veterans merchandise
available ranging from fine quality polo shirts and hats and tee's.
Hans Heinz from Jensen Beach High School continues editing the film/tape of our WW2
members who were interviewed at the high school studio. For those who have not heard
of this project let me take a moment to explain. Historians and scholars have been interviewing
soldiers and sailors with the hope of saving the heroic, important and day to day events
of these men and women during their time in the service. These individual interviews of memories will help preserve the memories and events of WW2. We hope with the assistance of Han's to preserve all
our members memories be they WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Just so you know some
of these video oral histories may end up in the Library of Congress.
Our next Veterans Luncheon will be held Friday January 22, 2016 at the Golden Corral in Stuart.
